Cold Harbor Battlefield Visitor Center is 5 mi. s.e. of Mechanicsville on SR 156. This facility serves as the starting point for tours of the Cold Harbor and Gaines' Mill battlefields within Richmond National Battlefield Park. The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar
The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, interprets the Civil War from three perspectives: Union, Confederate and African-American. Housed in the 1861 Tredegar Gun Foundry, the center's permanent exhibit, In the Cause of Liberty, discusses the war's causes through films, interactive displays and artifacts. The center affords picturesque views of the James River and is part of a historic district also encompassing the main visitor center for Richmond National Battlefield Park. The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia
The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia is housed in an 1832 Federal and Greek Revival building in the historic Jackson Ward district, the museum is a repository for artifacts detailing the lives of African-Americans in Virginia. Virginia Aviation Museum
The museum offers a tour through aviation history with planes from World Wars I and II. Included are a late 1920s open cockpit mail plane and a plane belonging to Virginia native Adm. Richard E.
